Forget “quiet quitting” and “quiet firing” — “rage applying” is a new term (for a not-so-new technique) that can help workers get the leverage they need to ask for and receive a raise, or simply to find a better-paid job that they might enjoy more.

Although the term has been used for years, “rage applying” has recently gained more popularity as a way to describe an evergreen career advancement strategy: Apply to a lot of jobs. The term has gained visibility across social media, and was used to powerful effect in a TikTok video by an influencer known as Redweez. Her simple video on this subject — and how her rage applying led to her getting a new job that paid $25,000 more than her old job — has garnered more than two million views.
