Live like an asteroid is going to hit earth

The popular saying “live every day like it’s your last” is breathtakingly hard to do.

It’s simply too big a command to wrap your mind around. Do you really know what you’d do with only one last day? Would you spend the day with your loved ones? Would you indulge in all your favorite bad habits? Or would you just do nothing but revel in the sensation of being alive?

A better (and more achievable) goal might be to “live like an asteroid is going to hit the earth.”

The asteroid threat that wasn’t

As recently as February 18, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was predicting that “major asteroid” 2024 YR4 had a 1 in 32 chance of hitting the earth in the year 2032.

“…Asteroid 2024 YR4 is on our radar for potentially catastrophic reasons — it’s on a collision course with Earth, earmarked for December 22, 2032. Should it crash into our world, the impact would unleash the might of 8 megatons of TNT. That’s enough force to lay waste to a metropolis like Washington, D. C….” — NASA
