The Ethics of AI: Examining Its Impact on Society

The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) poses significant consequences for society. Many people are concerned about potential negative implications. But, of course, each new technological advance comes with flaws, which usually are tweaked or ironed out satisfactorily.

Along the way, however, people must manage the consequences of these problems. In the case of AI, they can stem from negative decision-making and activities that don’t reflect individuals’ best moral interests. Here, you’ll learn about some primary ethical concerns.

Discrimination and bias

AI systems can promote biases due to how they’re programmed, such as discrimination against sectors of society and individuals. For instance, if an AI developer is prejudiced against people based on religion, race, or gender, their poor ethics will reflect in AI’s training and result in negative impacts.

AI trainers aren’t necessarily a diverse group of people, and this will affect how AI operates and makes decisions. A more ethical way to train AI is to introduce a wide range of diverse programmers based on personality, race, and gender, among other considerations; this would help humans create balanced, ethical…
