Parenting in the early 2010s versus early 2020s has undergone significant changes, from the introduction of prenatal genetic testing and increased awareness of car seat safety to shifts in fashion trends for infants. These changes reflect a decade of evolving cultural norms and social media campaigns that have impacted parenting practices.

For a lot of millennials, 2010 hardly seems like a full decade ago. Time seems to move even faster when you’re the parent of multiple kids of various different age groups, juggling a myriad of calendar items from middle school band concerts to preschool playdates.

Yet despite the perception of time and how quickly ten years seems to have passed, the vast difference in parenting trends in the early 2010s vs the norms in the early 2020s will reveal that a decade can bring many changes in cultural norms.

A mother who gave birth to her first child in 2010 and her final child in 2023 is likely to say that she doesn’t feel much time has passed since her first pregnancy. However, the trends, cultural norms, and even common medical advice from each pregnancy appears to be from two different realities.
