At 73 years old, and after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, Charles Philip Arthur George Windsor, better known as Prince Charles, ascended to the British throne. He’s the oldest person ever to do so. Much of that life has been unconventional. Here are 10 unusual facts you may not know about the new King of England.

1. He talks to plants

Amongst Charles’s passions is gardening. In a 1986 interview, he said he talked to plants, adding that this was important and helped the plants grow. At the time, he was ridiculed for this statement. However, a recent documentary, The Green Planet, presented by David Attenborough, showed that some plants and fungi can communicate with one another, perhaps vindicating King Charles in the process.

2. He had a big crush on Barbra Streisand

When the film Funny Girl was released in 1968, Charles saw it three times. He had a huge crush on its leading lady, Barbra Streisand. The then Prince of Wales first met the iconic singer in 1974. He said of her, “I shall never forget her dazzling, effervescent talent and the unique vitality and attraction of her voice and her acting ability.”…
