Not Every Tech CEO Is in Love With Donald Trump

One Silicon Valley leader is speaking truth to power

As recently as 2017, CEOs of tech companies and other “tech luminaries” were considered to be politically liberal (with the exception of their stated desire to “push Democrats away from regulation on business”).

However, one of the big news stories of the 2024 election was a large swing to the political right by such tech leaders and venture capitalists as Chamath Palihapitiya and David Sacks, who hosted large fundraisers for presidential candidate Donald Trump.

But not every tech CEO has decided that Donald Trump is the best friend the tech industry could have.

One CEO says the quiet part out loud

Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney made headlines recently when he charged that “after years of pretending to be Democrats, Big Tech leaders are now pretending to be Republicans.”

Sweeney posted the above critique on the social media platform X. In his post, he also suggested that the leaders were switching their political allegiances “in hopes of currying favor with the new administration.”
