Not Boosted on Medium? No Problem

Why a Medium ‘Boost’ Is Not the Be-All and End-All

The moment I discovered Medium’s new “boost” feature, I was torn between excitement and doubt. It seemed like a great chance to spread my work further on the platform.

But as I ventured into the workings and the benefits of a boost, my initial optimism waned, revealing that it wasn’t the magic solution for visibility I’d hoped for.

Here’s my take on it.

The charm of a boost is undeniable. It offers a quick fix to get your work out there, promising more eyes on your articles, more applause, and potentially more followers.

But, I soon noticed a gap. Yes, my boosted pieces were getting more exposure, but the readers attracted through the boost seemed (to me) less likely to interact with the content in meaningful ways.

A lot of the audience brought in by the boost didn’t dive deep into the conversation or leave the kind of insightful comments that typically enrich a piece.

Maybe I’m wrong, but it seemed, at least to me, that the depth of connection that organically grown audiences offer was missing.

The organic connections that grow over time, the ones that truly matter, seemed to be missing.
