Like to read? Like to binge episodes to a popular show? Like a good movie? Then Michael Crichton might make this a good year for you!

In the 1990s, no one in Hollywood was more prolific as a writer than Michael Crichton. As a novelist, he’s best known for the blockbuster novel, Jurassic Park. He also wrote and produced the movie version of Jurassic Park with Stephen Spielberg.

While books and movies would be enough for most people, Crichton also developed a popular TV series based on his experiences as a med student. ER was the name of the series and it would go on to be one of the most watched shows of the 90s.

At one point during the decade, Crichton would set a milestone by simultaneously having the number one book, number one TV show and number one movie in America.

Unfortunately, Crichton would eventually pass away of cancer. While he’s been gone for sixteen years, a culmination of events is once again going to bring his influence to readers, moviegoers and fans of bingeing shows online.

Here’s what you need to know about Michael Crichton for 2024.

Books

During the 1990s, Crichton had six number one bestselling novels. His output was at a staggering pace in that decade. This summer appears to be another season for readers to enjoy one more Michael Crichton book.

Before his death in 2008, Crichton had been doing research on the idea of a mega-eruption of a volcano that would threaten the Hawaiian islands. After his passing, Crichton’s notes and a partial manuscript of his writing were kept by his widow for many years. Her hope was to find the right author to pass it off to finish the story.

After some consideration, she contacted James Patterson. Impressed by his track record of co-authoring with people like Bill Clinton and Dolly Parton, it seemed like a natural choice.

The rest of the world will get to see the end result when Crichton’s final novel, Eruption, is released in June.
