Maybe There’s Nothing Wrong With Your Writing

Sometimes writers are too quick to blame themselves

Be honest: What’s your first reaction when something you write gets rejected or clearly doesn’t resonate with readers the way you thought it would?

Do you wonder what you did wrong?

Me too.

Writers, as a group, tend to be people who believe in introspection and reflection. Those traits can be awesome while you’re writing, but can be devastating when you perceive that your writing has failed.

Writers are always ready to believe they did something wrong, and that there’s something wrong with their writing, but that isn’t always the case.

The infamous stories about rejection

We’ve all heard the stories. You know, the ones about how many times that authors who are now rich and famous were rejected when they were first starting out.

Agatha Christie waited for years to get her first book published. Beatrix Potter (of Peter Rabbit fame) first had to self-publish her now classic books. Even James Patterson was rejected by “more than a dozen publishers” before he was able to hire a literary agent.
