If you find yourself being defensive in conversations, try to take a step back and become more aware of your reactions. Often, defensiveness arises from feeling attacked or criticized, but it can also stem from a lack of confidence or fear of failure. Instead of immediately responding defensively, take a moment to listen to the other person's perspective and consider their points of view. Practice active listening, ask clarifying questions, and try to stay calm and non-judgmental. By focusing on understanding rather than reacting, you can reduce your defensiveness and improve communication in your relationships.
