Four Key Events and People to Remember During Pride Month

Many months are designated for specific celebrations based on cultural and historical feats within the United States throughout the calendar year. These celebrations are markedly meaningful for numerous subsets of previously egregiously oppressed individuals.

June, designated Pride Month, is marked by the celebration and honor of the end of Manhattan’s Stonewall Uprising in 1969. The Stonewall Uprising is the first key event to remember while celebrating pride month.

Once you understand the Stonewall Uprising, you must note key activist Marsha P. Johnson, who faced a backlash within the gay community due to their biological sex being male and their choice of dressing in drag. Marsha made significant contributions which lead to June’s designation as pride month.
