There’s so much chatter in the news about the revolutionary ChatGPT AI chatbot and a steady stream of questions posed as to the impact it could have on almost every aspect of modern life. And yet, the truth is that ChatGPT remains flawed and is fundamentally incapable of replacing any task that requires the nuance of a human opinion. Whilst this is pretty well understood, what’s less clear are the risks inherent in using an AI chatbot.

Millions of words have been written to explain what ChatGPT is and how it does what it does, so let’s get straight to the heart of the matter. Here are five good reasons to exercise caution when you use ChatGPT.

(1.) ChatGPT lacks emotional intelligence and has zero ability to respond to the emotions expressed by a user. Consider then the risks inherent in using the chatbot to advise on matters of the heart or mental health. The FAQ page of the OpenAI website states, “[ChatGPT] also occasionally produces harmful instructions or biased content.” The risk of this happening with a vulnerable user is unacceptable. There are also data security concerns, which are considered in point 5 below.
